Autobiographical Information

My name is Jake Sundberg. I am currently a senior at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette majoring in mathematics. After graduation, I plan to attend the afforementioned university, completing two masters' degrees; one in physics and another in mathematics. Then, I plan to obtain my Ph.D. in mathematics from an institution to be selected on a later note.

I am the current president of the UL Lafayette Club for Academic Competition -- the 2007-2008 season is my second stint as president. I served as president for the 2005-2006 season and I do plan to retire from the presidency after this year and continue to pursue my quizbowl endeavors; however as a full-time graduate student I will not have time to run the organization as well. I have been playing quizbowl for eight years and I plan to do so until I obtain my Ph.D.

Originally, I am from New Iberia, Louisiana. I have a 31-year-old brother, Chris, and an 8-year-old nephew, Tray. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my nephew. The things we do together include, but are not limited to: playing Nintendo, teaching him math, watching cartoons, and going get haircuts together.

Currently, my academic interests include astrophysics, semiconductor physics, algebra, topology, and number theory.

In addition, I am also interested in winning quizbowl tournaments, although luck has turned against me recently. I look forward to the future of the Club for Academic Competition; however, I probably won't be able to continue my duties as president. I will continue to play quizbowl as long as I am in graduate school. It has become part of my life.
