Antoni's Italian Café - 1118-A Coolidge, Lafayette (in the Oil Center). Casual Italian dining. Very good calzone, salads, pasta. Great fresh spinach vegetarian pizza. For dessert lovers, there's great Italian cream cheese ice cream. 232-8384.
 
Bella Figura - 340-C Kaliste Saloom Rd., Lafayette. Popular ristorante italiano, featuring Tuscan food and wine. Expensive, but worth it. Good atmosphere. Good food. Reservations recommended. 237-5800.
 
Blue Dog Café - 1211 W. Pinhook Rd., Lafayette. Owned by a Cajun artist, the Blue Dog features innovative Cajun cuisine and good atmosphere. Many original George Rodrigue paintings on the walls. 237-0005

Café Vermilionville - 1304 W. Pinhook Rd., Lafayette. Expensive, casually elegant restaurant, housed in an 1800s Acadian Inn. Easy walk from Hilton. Menu features upscale Cajun and Creole dishes. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Reservations recommended for dinner. 237-0100.
 
Charley G's - 3809 Ambassador Caffery, Lafayette. Progressive Cajun cuisine in a casually elegant setting. Excellent and imaginative dishes. Great wine list. Live contemporary jazz on the weekends. 981-0108.
 
Copeland's of Lafayette - 3920 Ambassador Caffery, Lafayette. Local branch of Copeland's Famous New Orleans Restaurant and Bar. "Cajun American cuisine." Good food with big portions. Unusual décor. Open every day at 11 am. Always crowded. 991-0320.
 
Coyote Blues - 5741 Johnston St. Southwestern menu and décor; wonderful chips and salsa, and innovative specials. 988-3668.
 
Guamas - 302 Jefferson St. (downtown). Popular Caribbean restaurant. Wonderful yucca, plantain, black beans, etc. 267-4242.
 
iMonelli - 4017 Johnston St. Northern Italian cuisine, featuring new and old favorites. Fresh baked bread and exciting desserts. Full service bar. Good wine list. Lunch: Tues.-Fri. Dinner: Tues-Sat. Closed Sun. and Mon. 989-9291.
 
La Fonda - 3809 Johnston. Tex-Mex and steaks. Especially popular as an early evening Margarita watering hole. Open 11am to 10pm. 984-5630.

Mustang Sally's Grill and Bar - 1801 W. Pinhook. In the Best Western Hotel Acadiana. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 233-8120.
 
Outback Steakhouse - 1600 W. Pinhook Rd. Fine steaks, less expensive than Ruth's Chris. 235-8640.
 
Poor Boy's Riverside Inn - 240 Tubing Rd., Lafayette, just off US 90 East. A favorite Lafayette restaurant since 1932. Along with Don's, one of the originators of upscale Cajun cuisine. Fine seafood, including grilled stuffed flounder, crabmeat étouffée, flounder extravaganza, and the shrimp dinner. Also serving live Maine lobster, a full line of steaks, and heart-healthy items. Closed Sunday. 235-8559.
 
Randol's Restaurant & Cajun Dance Hall - 2320 Kaliste Saloom Rd., Lafayette. "Two Steppin', Toe Tappin', Taste Temptin'" hall features Cajun music, food, and dancing 7 nights a week in a casual, family atmosphere. 981-7080 or (800) YO-CAJUN
 
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse - 620 W. Pinhook Rd. A moderate walk from the Hilton, serves serious filets, richly marbled, corn-fed beef, custom-aged and cut by hand. Pricey, but worth it. Must order side a la carte, so best to share. Reservations recommended. 237-6123.
 
Sakura - 3217 Johnston St. Offers a variety of sushi and non-sushi entrees, including Bento boxes. 989-9698.

Shangri La - 4702 Johnston Street. Great sushi bar, fine Chinese menu, and delightful Japanese grill. 988-4588.
 
The Blair House - 1316 Surrey St., Lafayette. Just off Pinhook near Vermilionville. One of Lafayette's old guard restaurants. Traditional and progressive Cajun cuisine. Great wine list. Lunch M-F; Saturday dinner only. 234-0357.
 
The Original Don's Seafood & Steakhouse - 301 E. Vermilion, Lafayette (downtown). Third generation family-owned restaurant located in historic downtown Lafayette. One of the first restaurants to experiment with traditional Cajun cuisine back in the 1930s, producing innovative dishes such as crawfish stuffed flounder. Most of the crawfish dishes are good, and the eggplant dishes are also noteworthy. Newly remodeled. Specializing in fresh seafood and steaks. 235-3551.
 
The Peking Garden - 4416 Johnston St. Taeppanaki Seafood, Japanese Steak, & Chinese cuisine. Japanese dishes prepared at table especially recommended. Reservations recommended for dinner. 984-1290.
