On
November 12, 2001, Susan Gubar, co-author of The Madwoman in the Attic
and more recently, of Critical Condition, visited UL Lafayette to help
inaugurate the women's studies undergraduate minor through the College of
Liberal Arts. Her visit was the result of the generous support of and
collaboration between the Department of English, the Graduate School, the
College of Liberal Arts, the Graduate Student Organization, the Lyceum
Committee of SGA, and the Department of History. She gave a wonderful set of presentations—a
seminar on feminism and pedagogy in the afternoon and a bracing performance in
the evening from her work-in-progress entitled "A Feminism of One's
Own," a subtle integration of theory and autobiography. Click on the
thumbnails below to see some highlights from her visit.
