The Deep South Festival of Writers

A Reading by Brett Evans, Bill Lavender, Hank Lazer, Alex Rawls, and Marthe Reed
at UL Lafayette's Fletcher Hall Auditorium, November 14th, 2003
In this semester's second major event presented by the Deep South Festival of Writers, poets associated with Another South: Experimental Writing in the South came to UL Lafayette to read before an enthusiastic audience of faculty, students, and poetry fans from the Lafayette community. The readers were introduced by our Skip Fox. Check out the brief bio notes and pictures below:
Brett Evans’s most recent book is After School Session (subpress collective, 2003). His work has appeared in Another South, and numerous journals, including New Orleans Review.
Skip Fox is Professor of English at UL Lafayette. His most recent major publication is What Of (Potes and Poets Press, 2003). See Skip's Creative Writing webpage for more information about his work.Bill Lavender is the editor of Another South: Experimental Writing in the South, from University of Alabama Press, 2003. His latest book of poems is look the universe is dreaming (Potes and Poets, 2002). A new book, While Sleeping, is forthcoming from Chax Press in 2004. Bill directs the low residency MFA program at the University of New Orleans.
Hank Lazer's most recent book of poems is Days (Lavender Ink, 2002); forthcoming is Elegies & Vacations (poems, Salt Publishing, Spring 2004). He edits the Modern and Contemporary Poetics Series for the University of Alabama Press.
Alex Rawls’ latest book is What's Your Sign? (Lavender Ink, 2001). He is a contributor to Another South. Alex teaches English at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, and writes a music column for Offbeat Magazine.
Marthe Reed is Instructor in English at UL Lafayette, and co-director of the 2003-04 Deep South Festival of Writers. For more information, see her Creative Writing web page.
