The UL-Lafayette
Graduate Student Reading
Series
The Creative Writing Graduate
Students at UL-Lafayette have run their own reading series for many years.
Their readers include not only graduate students in creative writing, but
faculty members in English and from around the university, community writers,
and occasional guests passing through town. Each year they select an MC
responsible for managing the readings and lugging the equipment. For the past
six years the readings have been on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. GST (Graduate
Student Time), and for the past four years they’ve been held at Chris’s Po-Boys
at 631 Jefferson St. Each reading consists of two featured readers who read for
about twenty minutes each followed by an open mic, where anyone can read for up
to five minutes. For information about the series, call Jerry McGuire at
337-482-5478 or email him at jlm8047@louisiana.edu.
The first link below provides this semester’s scheduled readings. The rest of
the links lead out to master pages with thumbnails of photographs of last
year’s readings. They’re also our archive of a large part of our social life as
writers, so there’s probably too much for an outsider to assimilate. But they
also say an awful lot about the atmosphere of our writing community, and we
hope you’ll browse around and see what you think.
