Mark LaRue Mark LaRue received an MA
in English from Syracuse University and is a Northeastern native who wandered
to the Southwest, where he lived a desultory life before picking up and
settling down to complete doctoral studies at UL Lafayette. He's taught
part-time at four or five colleges, has written poems since he was 16 or so,
though has no memory of that year, has published some of them, in APR
and in other places, and has submitted some of them, from a recent chapbook,
to this website. Though some in his current profession have suggested he is
in the FBI Witness Protection Program, he neither confirms nor denies. |

Mark LaRue on UL-Lafayette
As you've likely heard by
now, the UL Lafayette experience is part UL and part Lafayette. The Lafayette
part has to do mainly with the Acadiana culture; these people have made festivals
out of anything that moves—frogs, ducks, eggs, crawfish . . . and especially
Louisiana's varietal music. Attending all of these festivals has been
time-consuming, it's true, but that's the good part. The UL side of my
experience has been composed of literary study, of course, and also of a useful
environment for writing. Small, friendly, positive workshops and big-hearted,
open-minded writing professors create an atmosphere that encourages output.
I've gotten serious work done here.
