General Submission Guidelines
Attach your work as a Word or RTF document when directing it to the appropriate editor.  The genre name should appear as the subject line; for example, “FICTION” and so on.  The body of the email can serve as the submission’s cover letter.

Please include your contact information (name, e-mail, address, phone number) in both your cover letter and on the first page of your manuscript.  We try our best to respond within three months.

While we will rarely, if ever, have money to pay our contributors, we can send you your very own bottle of authentic Tabasco Pepper Sauce. As we get closer to publication, we’ll inquire about any pepper related allergies and preferences (we recommend the Habernero).

All work is subject to editing.  This mainly pertains to spelling and grammar.  In the case of more subjective changes, authors will receive an electronic version of the final proof of their work for approval prior to publication.

We read submissions year-round.

While we accept simultaneous submissions please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. Please submit only once per reading period.

Book Reviews

We are interested in reviews of recently published works of fiction, poetry and nonfiction.  Reviews should span 500 – 800 words.  While the quality of the review is our main criteria, we prefer to publicize new or lesser known writers representing small presses or imprints, as well as books not widely reviewed.  Some examples of smaller presses whose offerings consistently intrigue and impress us are Copper Canyon, Graywolf, Tupelo, Alice James Books and Sarabande.

Send book reviews and any queries to: rougaroueditors@gmail.com

Poetry

Please send 3 – 8 poems.  No poem should exceed three pages.  We especially like free-verse poems with evocative imagery, lyricism and a strong sense of place.  Prose poems are also welcome.  Rhyming poetry must be exceptional.

Send poetry to: rougaroupoetry@gmail.com

Fiction

We are interested in innovative stories driven by a strong sense of narrative.  More traditional prose also makes us happy, especially when the work is layered and complex enough to warrant a second reading.  Humor and playfulness are always appreciated.

Stories should be double spaced, with numbered pages and at least one inch margins.  Rougarou fiction has no word limit.

Send fiction to: rougaroufiction@gmail.com

Nonfiction

We work from a broad definition of nonfiction.  We encourage you to send work that experiments with defining the genre, though well-crafted conventional nonfiction is also appreciated.  Please send up to 25 pages of polished, professional quality work.

Send nonfiction to: rougarounonfiction@gmail.com.
