Phi Alpha Theta is an international honor society for history. It was organized at the University of Arkansas on March 17, 1921. Since 1921, Phi Alpha Theta has grown to more than eight hundred fifty chapters in fifty states, more than any other accredited four-year college honor society. The total number of initiates since its inception is more than 270,000. We are proud to have an active chapter at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and welcome you to join us.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: Membership is open to all students, regardless of major. To be eligible, an undergraduate student must have completed 12 hours of history courses; must have a 3.1 GPA in all history courses; and must have a 3.0 GPA in 2/3 of all other courses. Graduate students may also become a member of Phi Alpha Theta. To be eligible, a graduate student must have completed at least one-thid of the requirements for the MA degree with at least a 3.0 GPA.

LOUISIANA REGIONAL PHI ALPHA THETA CONFERENCE: The Epsilon Xi chapter at UL-Lafayette will host the annual Louisiana Regional Phi Alpha Theta Conference in 2004. Like years past, it will be held in conjunction with the Louisiana Historical Association Annual Meeting. If you are interested in presenting a paper, please contact Dr. Farmer-Kaiser at kaiser@louisiana.edu.

PUBLISHING OPPORTUNITIES: The Epsilon Xi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta here at UL-Lafayette edits the annual publication of the Clio’s Quill, a journal dedicated to student scholarship in Louisiana. Printed copies are available free in the History Department or from Dr. Michael Martin. In addition, the journal is currently accepting papers for volume 6.
