ITiCSE '99 is now part of history...

Here are some closing thoughts from Bruce Klein, Chair of SIGCSE:

We had a very successful ITiCSE. I believe that all the non-Poles in attendance now know why I love Krakow.

I heard several comments on the strength of the program and overall quality of organization of the conference. Once again, a high bar has been set! But I suspect that Jorma et al are up to the challenge!

This was an absolutely terrific group of folks to work with -- I wish I could bottle it!

Until the next time.

Until next time, indeed...

The 4th Annual SIGCSE/SIGCUE Conference on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education (ITiCSE’99) is hosted by the Cracow University of Economics, Cracow, Poland.  The conference will consist of plenary sessions including keynote speeches by invited speakers, technical sessions featuring papers, panels, demonstrations, posters, tutorials, and interaction with the working groups.

Poland lies in the heart of Europe, forming a bridge between the East and the West. Since the fall of the communist regime in 1990, the country has been the leader of changes in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), and is now on the American administration's list of the 10 most promising "new" countries.

Cracow, the old capital of Poland, has been the center of learning since the Middle Ages. Catering to a variety of tastes, Cracow offers a range of places to visit. It is the richest city in Poland for its historic and artistic monuments. In 1978, Cracow's Old Town was placed on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list. Among many historical and scenic places in the neighborhood of Cracow are: the Medieval Salt Mines of Wieliczka, Zakopane in the heart of the Tatra Mountains, the World War II concentration camp of Auschwitz, and Dunajec Gorge in the Pieniny Mountains.

The Cracow University of Economics, which hosts this conference, is one of the top business schools in the CEE. Founded in 1925, it is now the leader in management education. Accommodations and breakfasts will be arranged in hotels, conveniently situated close to both the University and the town center.
