The first U.S. Ambassador to the African Union, Dr. Cindy Courville, received an honorary doctorate of Humanities from UL Lafayette during Commencement on Dec. 18. The Opelousas native received her bachelor's and master's degrees from UL Lafayette in the 1970s. Currently, Courville serves as a professor at the National Defense Intelligence College in Washington D.C., where she teaches intelligence professionals to identify and integrate foreign, military and domestic intelligence in defense of the U.S. homeland and of U.S. interests abroad.
