Associate Professor of Architecture Corey Saft soon could be entering an exclusive club. He just completed a new energy-efficient home that could earn a "Passive House" certification for its efficiency. If his home earns this designation, it will be one of only a handful in the United States. A representative with Passive House Institute US, which awards the certification, told the Baton Rouge Advocate that Saft is the first in the South to do this. |

Defining Another Language

Dr. Barry Ancelet, a professor of Modern Languages and an expert on Cajun folklore, is helping to preserve the French language – Louisiana style. He is an assistant editor of The Dictionary of Louisiana: As Spoken in Cajun, Creole and American Indian Communities. The 892-page book includes entries dating back to the 1930s. Ancelet said the dictionary does more than preserve French."It's preserving French for this context, the way we use it," he said. |

| Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns are proving that student-athletes can excel in academics and athletics. Last semester, 177 UL Lafayette student-athletes posted a 3.0 GPA or higher. This represents nearly half of all student-athletes. Eighteen earned perfect 4.0s. A new report crunches the numbers. |

Bamboo Framework

A UL Lafayette researcher has found a way to restore Louisiana's coastal marshlands in Terrebonne Parish. Dr. Jenneke Visser, associate professor in the Institute for Coastal Ecology and Engineering, and other researchers used bamboo, PVC pipe and chicken wire to mimic floating marshes. She describes how this experimental method is already working in an article for Houma's newspaper The Courier.
