Still Shining

UL Lafayette's TEAM BeauSoleil can add the Metal Construction Association's President's Award to its list of honors. The Louisiana BeauSoleil Solar Home was tops in the MCA's residential category. The awards recognize innovation and creativity. In 2009, the team competed in the U.S. Solar Decathlon in the nation's capital. It placed first in Market Viability and earned the People's Choice Award.

Kudos to the National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies Institute at UL Lafayette for its Acadiana Innovation Award from the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce recently. Drs. Ramesh Kolluru and Mark Smith created NIMSAT after hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated Louisiana in 2005. The institute fosters partnerships between public and private industries during emergencies such as hurricanes. These partnerships help communities and their economies rebound quickly after a disaster.

Yankee Tradition
Every Spring, Yogi Berra arrives at the New York Yankees training base. And, every Spring his driver is none other than Louisiana's Ron Guidry. These baseball legends have been hanging out together during spring training for more than a dozen years. They talked with The New York Times last week about this tradition. "It's like I'm the valet," said Guidry, UL Lafayette alum. "Actually, I am the valet."
