Picard Center

Picard Center for Child Development and Lifelong Learning
Researchers and staff members with the Picard Center for Child Development and Lifelong Learning will move into new offices this summer. Construction of the center’s 40,812-square-foot building is expected to be complete in June. The new facility is adjacent to the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise in University Research Park. The Picard Center’s research includes studies related to K-12 education, poverty and the state's public preschool program.

Louisiana's Ragin' CajunsLouisiana's Ragin' Cajuns’ 2011 softball season starts this weekend with the 25th annual Louisiana Classics tournament. The Cajuns are ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation in preseason polls. Plan to park at Cajun Field and Bourgeois Hall during the Classics tournament, since the Lamson parking lot will be reserved for tournament officials and visiting teams.

Fairy Godmother
UL Lafayette's AmeriCorps program is looking for prom dresses. The group is teaming up with the Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge to distribute prom dresses to local girls at no cost.

Formal dresses will be accepted Feb. 14 through Feb. 25 at the AmeriCorps office, 206 Coliseum Road.

High school girls will be able to shop for a dress March 19 at the Hilton Garden Inn. This is the fourth year AmeriCorps has sponsored the event.

Professional Honor
The Louisiana Engineering Foundation honored Dr. Terrence Chambers with one of its 2011 Louisiana Faculty Professionalism Awards.

He is associate dean for UL Lafayette’s College of Engineering and an associate professor of mechanical engineering.

Chambers previously served as interim department head in mechanical engineering. He joined UL Lafayette’s faculty in 1997. Congratulations!
