In the chaos caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, lots of people recognized that private and public sectors needed to cooperate. But UL Lafayette’s Dr. Ramesh Kolluru found a way to foster private-public partnerships. He established the National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies Institute at UL Lafayette in 2007. Last week, Kolluru and his team joined state emergency preparedness officials to show off a center where they will coordinate efforts of private businesses and state agencies during emergencies.

They collected samples of algae from the Gulf of Mexico, where a broken pipeline continues to gush crude oil. In a report for KATC TV-3, Fredericq explained how oil-soaked algae can have a detrimental effect on wildlife. |
