Common, which includes University Research Park, Ragin' Cajuns® athletic
facilities and intramural fields. The master plan will include potential

UL Lafayette President Joseph Savoie (left) along with community
leaders and architecture students and faculty break ground on Event
House. |
UL Lafayette architecture students are designing "green" homes
as a way to revitalize some of Lafayette's neglected neighborhoods. A
groundbreaking for the first home, named "Event House," was
held last week on Madison Street, near downtown Lafayette. The home will
be constructed with sustainable and renewable materials. It is financed
by the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority and is part of a neighborhood
infill initiative. The listing price is $153,000, with proceeds going
to construction costs for the next home. The goal is to build a new home
each year, said Geoff Gjertson, associate professor of architecture and
design. |
