A group of UL Lafayette faculty members were honored for exemplary academic advising during a ceremony at the UL Lafayette Alumni Center. In addition to the satisfaction of helping students, 45 faculty members with three or more years of advising received $1,000 stipends. Ten new faculty with less than three years of advising received $500 stipends. The university has been rewarding faculty members for exemplary advising since 2006. |

An open house and rededication ceremony were held last week to celebrate completion of Burke-Hawthorne Hall’s renovation and expansion. The building was originally named for Walter Burke of New Iberia, a former member of the State Board of Education. In 1997, it was renamed to also honor Doris Hawthorne, a long-time university supporter. A portrait of Hawthorne was unveiled during the events. Burke-Hawthorne Hall houses KRVS radio station and the departments of Communications, Communicative Disorders and Performing Arts.
