Tailored Approach
Dr. Andrew Hatchett, assistant professor of kinesiology at UL Lafayette, is working closely with people recovering from cancer to see how they may benefit from exercise. Research suggests that physical activity is beneficial, but Hatchett is taking it one step further. He's investigating the connection between working out and getting well by focusing on individual patients. "Cancer is not a cookie-cutter disease. You may have two patients with the same type of cancer, receiving the same treatment, who will have totally different reactions to the treatment," he said. Hatchett is teaming up with the Miles Perret Cancer Center to continue his research.

Let it Sneaux!
Sneaux Day 2On Wednesday, the lawn in front of Martin Hall at UL Lafayette will be turned into an ice skating rink. The wintry scene is part of the university's annual Sneaux Day. Children of students, faculty and staff will skate from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Skating from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. is reserved for UL Lafayette students. University President Joseph Savoie will light decorations at 6 p.m. Participants can also get a photo with the Ragin' Cajun Santa at the president's house. All activities are free.

Up, Up and Away
UL Lafayette engineering students were the first in Louisiana to design, build and maintain a satellite in space three years ago. Students are hoping to do it again.

The Cajun Advanced Picosatellite Experiment team is using weather balloons and floating buoys to test CAPE-2. The project gives students an inside look into the aerospace industry.

The team launched its original satellite in Lower Earth Orbit, which is about 60 to 450 nautical miles above the Earth’s surface, from Kazakhstan.

Softball Leader 
Scott FarmerScott Farmer, UL Lafayette's senior associate athletic director, will chair the NCAA Division I Softball Committee. He will lead a nine-member group in charge of the oversight of college softball. The committee is also responsible for the management and administration of the Division I Softball Championship, including the Woman's College World Series.
