Freshmen and seniors at UL Lafayette gave the university high marks in a report released by the National Survey for Student Engagement last week. Stats show that 87 percent of first-year students rate their UL Lafayette educational experience as “good” or “excellent.” Eighty-three percent of seniors said the same. This year 362,000 students from 564 universities and colleges across the country completed the questionnaire. |

When a man claiming to be a Jesuit priest showed up to donate a painting to the Hilliard University Art Museum recently, Director Mark Tullos sensed something wasn't right. His hunch was correct. Museum Registrar Joyce Penn examined the painting – an American
impressionist painting purported
to be by Charles Courtney
Curran – at the university's Microscopy Center. That is when she discovered it was a fake. When Tullos let the rest of the art world know about this donation, he found out others had been fleeced. Learn how news spread across the art community.

| Moving Images |
A new baccalaureate program at UL Lafayette is aimed at students interested in the film industry.
The Moving Image Arts program will include film, television, animation, video games, advertising and educational media.
Dr. Charles Richard, program director, said graduates will be prepared for a variety of creative professions, including careers in the state's growing entertainment industry. The program leads to a bachelor of arts degree. |

Teaming Up for Gulf Coast |
Staffers with two research centers at UL Lafayette were part of an "Economic Solutions Team" that visited Gulf Coast communities adversely affected by the BP oil spill.
Mickie Valente with the National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies Institute, and Dave Thomas with the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Louisiana helped conduct needs assessments in Alabama communities along the Gulf of Mexico.
They're helping officials there develop action steps and offer guidance for economic recovery efforts.
