Good for Business
The B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration is among the best places to receive an MBA. That’s according to The Princeton Review. Its list of “Best 301 Business Schools'” was released Monday. The compilation is based on surveys of 19,000 students enrolled in business schools across the country and on school-reported data. The “Best 301 Business Schools” book has two-page profiles of those 301 top institutions with write-ups on academics, student life and admissions, plus ratings for academics, selectivity and career placement services.

Top of the Class
Joseph Sonnier has worked on the Port Barre Elementary campus since 1981. Older students remember him as Mr. Sonnier, the janitor, a title he held for 26 years. Now, he’s Mr. Sonnier, the teacher. “When I was still a custodian, they were just in kindergarten and coming up,” said Sonnier in a recent interview. “You think that kids are not going to respect you because, ‘Oh, he was just a janitor.’ Those kids respect me more because they see what I’ve done and what I’ve accomplished.”

Service Learning
UL Lafayette AmeriCorps students have been volunteering to help build homes for low-income families and to tutor at-risk children since 1995. Since the program started, more than 400 AmeriCorps students have spent more than 250,000 hours making a difference in south Louisiana. It’s believed to be the only campus-based AmeriCorps program in Louisiana. |

Update: Cake Champs
The two sisters of Sweet Southern Ladies Designer Cakes near St. Martinville, La., were the top winners in the “Ultimate Cake-off” that aired on The Learning Channel on Sept. 28.
Martha Hebert and Rebecca Guidry constructed the ultimate cake for the Petersen Automotive Museum's 15th Anniversary celebration. The pair are UL Lafayette graduates.
