Educators Go Back to School 
Gear Up ProgramAbout 40 Lafayette Parish teachers and principals returned to the college classroom recently. Faculty from UL Lafayette's College of Education taught the middle and high school educators how to build effective teams in the classroom, as part of the Gear Up program. Participants also enjoyed tailgating before the Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns football game against Arkansas State.

Artful Donation
Green Bowls by Janet FishA collection of artwork has found a new home. British Petroleum's Lafayette office recently donated a collection of contemporary works to UL Lafayette's Hilliard University Art Museum. The work of artist Janet Fish is included in the collection. To the right is one of her silk screen prints. Other pieces include paintings and drawings. All were added to the museum's permanent collection.

Final Stop
RCAF Stop in Lafayette Sept. 15
Save the date. On Wednesday, the Ragin' Cajuns Athletic Foundation will wrap up its 2010 tour with its stop in Lafayette. The doors of the Cajundome Convention Center will open at 5:30 p.m. Head coaches Bob Marlin, Rickey Bustle, Tony Robichaux and Stefni Lotief will discuss RCAF's impact on their sports. Cool door prizes will be given away too.

Life Stories
Everyone has a story in UL Lafayette's Life Writing course for senior citizens. Someone may write about rearing children in a small town. Another student may recall a journey with lifelong friends.

Each story teaches a lesson, said Kim Graham, class instructor. "They don't realize the important things they've done. They have lived incredible lives."

It's All Business
One former UL Lafayette faculty member and one current professor are among The Independent's 2010 Women Who Mean Business.

Dr. Jeanette Parker is among this year's Trailblazers. She is a retired UL Lafayette professor and is considered a pioneer in gifted education in Lafayette.

Mary Ann Wilson, an English professor, is also being honored. She created a women's studies minor at the university and is working to develop a humanities major that will include women's studies.
