| Event: Motivational speakers, UL Lafayette Campus Tour, Complimentary Basketball tickets Date: Saturday, Jan. 24 Time: 8:30 a.m. Location: Advanced Computer Technology and Research Hall (Computer Science Builiding), 301 E. Lewis Street on UL Lafayette campus Information: 6th and 7th graders and their parents learn about planning for educational success — and receive free tickets to see the Ragin’ Cajun Men’s Basketball team take on South Alabama in the Cajundome. Students from Judice Middle, Lafayette Middle and Scott Middle Schools are part of the Lafayette Parish GEAR UP initiative. 8:30 a.m – Continental Breakfast 9 a.m. – UL Lafayette President Joseph Savoie welcomes parents/students 9:15 a.m. – Chad Foster, author of “Teenagers Preparing fo the Real World” addresses students 9:15 a.m - Lonnie Moore (“The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens”) speaks with parents 10 a.m – Campus Tour Students from Judice Middle, Lafayette Middle and Scott Middle Schools are part of the Lafayette Parish GEAR UP initiative. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a six-year, $12 million federal grant initiative being locally administered by the Lafayette Parish School Board. The program follows students from 6th through 12th grade, with the goal of excelling in post-secondary education. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is a community partner in the Lafayette Parish GEAR UP initiative. Contact: Traci Aucoin, GEAR UP Project Manager, at 337-521-7164.
