| EVENT: Annual Future Teacher Day DATE: Friday, April 24 TIME: 8:30 a.m. LOCATION: Student Union INFORMATION: The annual Future Teacher Day at UL Lafayette is for high school students from Acadiana who are participating in the STAR program. This is a statewide program designed to encourage students to become teachers by providing one or more courses at the high school level, for credit. The courses introduce the students to the world of teaching. Some Acadiana schools, such as Acadiana high School, have has the program for some time now. Other schools across Acadiana are either starting or contemplating starting the program. Many students and teachers from across the state are expected to attend. UL Lafayette President Joseph Savoie will also be in attendance as well as Dean Gerald Carlson from UL Lafayette’s College of Education, Liz Duhon with Entergy Corporation and Dr. Jeanne M. Burns, the associate commissioner of Teacher Education Initiatives in Louisiana. CONTACT: Dr. William Rieck in Education, 482-6413. Media coverage is invited. |
