PETROLEUM ENGINEERING DEPT. HEAD RECEIVES SPE AWARD
 
Dr. Ali GhalamborDr. Ali Ghalambor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette was named the recipient of the 2007 Production and Operations Award by the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE). The SPE technical awards recognize outstanding achievements in or contributions to the advancement of petroleum engineering in technical areas.

The selection committee composed of industry and academic peers cited Ghalambor for his many technical contributions in the area of formation damage control and remediation and advancing the technology of sand control. He received the award at the SPE Reception and Banquet held in conjunction with the 2007 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in Anaheim, California.

Ghalambor is a nationally and internationally recognized professional in the field of petroleum engineering. He has authored or co-authored more than 130 technical articles, and 10 books and manuals.

He is recipient of many national and international awards and recognitions. He joined UL Lafayette in 1982 following a career in the industry. He obtained a bachelor and a masters of science in petroleum engineering from then University of Southwestern Louisiana and a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

At UL Lafayette, Ghalambor is the American Petroleum Institute Endowed Professor, head of the Petroleum Engineering department and director of the Energy Institute.
