WORLD PREMIERE OF UL LAFAYETTE FACULTY MUSIC

New UL Lafayette School of Music faculty member Gabriel Miller’s work “Jericho” – a horn and piano piece – will be premiered by UL Lafayette colleague Catherine Roche-Wallace at the Mid-South Horn Workshop in Memphis.

Locally, the piece will be performed at the “Sounds of Sunday” concert at the Lafayette Public Library on March 22 at 3 p.m. UL Lafayette music student Caitlin Piercy will perform the piece with Miller on piano.

“ Jericho” depicts the biblical seven-day march of Joshua and his men around the walled city of Jericho. The Eastern-influenced theme and variations presents a melody that increases in rhythmic and dynamic intensity and portrays a holy army bringing down the walls of Jericho.

Miller is an assistant professor of Music Theory and is coordinator of the Theory Division at UL Lafayette. He holds a bachelor of Music degree from Florida State University, a master of Church Music from Lee University and a master’s and Ph.D. in Music Theory from The Ohio State University.
