Faculty Senate Executive Officer’s Report
September 20, 2000
Follow-up on motions from the April 2000 meeting:
- I spoke with Vice President Blanco and received assurance that the air conditioning would be left on Saturday and Sunday of final exam week and that the air conditioning would be turned on in time to have class buildings fully cool by 7:30 a.m. A follow-up memo of the conversation was sent to him.
- The Faculty Senate Liaison Committee met in August to discuss issues which would be brought to the President. The Committee met with the President on September 12. The new Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies was discussed. The Committee requested that the faculty receive information about the new structure. A letter is being drafted. The President invited the group to bring additional Faculty issues to later meetings.
Other business conducted:
- Paperwork was completed to make Senator Ferstel the Senate’s Web Liaison.
- Changes to the Faculty Handbook with revisions for Faculty Grievance Committee Procedures approved by the Senate have been distributed. New pages also include procedures for the selection of deans.
- The topic of establishing a Faculty Club was raised at University Council. I worked on the project over the summer and have appointed a steering committee to work toward development of such a club.
