Typeset vs. Typewritten Reasons to have your job typeset:Typeset materials are read 27 percent faster according to studies. A survey conducted among 300 professionals showed typeset materials to be more believable. The group consistently ranked typeset material to be more credible, persuasive and professional than non-typeset materials. There is a strong expectation on the part of most of today's population that, if it's typeset, it's probably important. New jobs that do not require designing, or reprints that require corrections are routed directly to Composition. Here, the copy provided by you is composed and formatted. You are then contacted to review a proof by carefully proofreading and marking any changes directly on the copy. Once the job has been routed through Layout and/or Camera, charges for any additional corrections increase, reflecting the cost of time and materials as plates and mechanicals must be re-shot, re-stripped and re-plated. You will save time and money if you submit your materials typewritten on 81/2 x 11" paper. You may also submit copy on a CD, Zip or 31/2" diskette accompanied by a complete print out of the copy saved on the diskette. Please number each page and clearly mark preference for paragraph indentations, extra spacing, etc. on your hard copy. Mark for bold type, caps, underlines, italics, etc. Please do not write notes to the typesetter in pencil. They are hard to read and easily missed. Use the margins for instructions, your ideas, or other needed information. Use a RED pen for these notations as well as for marking your proof. Be clear and concise in what you are trying to convey to the typesetter. If room does not permit, simply put a reference number by the text and type the information on a separate sheet of paper. The manner in which you submit your material is clearly reflected in the finished product.
