What local resources are out there for victims of domestic abuse and their children?
There are many local resources for victims of domestic abuse in Lafayette and the surrounding areas. All of these options aim to break the destructive cycle of abuse, and offer services to both women who are victims and children. They are all safe places to go to or call and will be able to either provide direct assistance or direct you to a closer or more appropriate service depending on your needs.
The Faith House of Acadiana is a resource in Lafayette that provides shelter, food, clothing, health services, counseling, and legal assistance. Victims can stay up to 45 days, or possibly longer depending on the situation. Those who do not need a place to stay can still utilize their counseling services, health screenings, and legal assistance offerings. Children are also welcome. There are additional services outside the Lafayette area, such as the Battered Woman's Program in Baton Rouge. Their services include shelter, financial assistance, counseling, and legal advice. They also accept children (males up to the age of 6) and provide childcare.

In Lake Charles, there is the Calcasieu Battered Women's Program which provides services such as 24 hour counseling and information, shelter for victims and their children, transportation, and opportunities for employment.
