English Placement Test is only for First-time Freshmen over the age of 25.
Scheduling a Placement Test
Placement tests are administered by appointment through the UL Testing Center. Please call 337-482-1663 for further information and to schedule a Placement Test appointment.
Admission Requirements
Bring your current driver's license to the test, a fee of $20.00 cash, and No. 2 pencils
Content and Review
UL uses a paper-based exam for placement in English courses.
The English exam measures your understanding of sentence structure, how sentences are put together, and what makes a sentence complete and clear. The test is divided into 4 timed sections, Vocabulary, Reading, Effectiveness and mechanics. Preparation should include a review of the following: sentence combining, comma rules, parallelisms, and subordination. Any handbook or high school English textbook will be useful for your review.
Retest Policy
A student may take the English placement test only one time. This will determine if you are to schedule English 090 or English 101.
