Article 1.  Name

The ASSOCIATION of INDIAN STUDENTS at University  of Louisiana, Lafayette,hereafter recognized as AIS, shall be a non-profit socio-cultural organization.

 

Article 2. Objectives

a.  To create an awareness of Indian Culture amongst the student community.

b.  To establish and maintain contact with the Indian Community at large.

c.  To provide a platform for all members and interested non-members to participate

in campus activities through cultural events.

d.  To provide a platform for expression and provide mutual support for the Indian

Community in and around Lafayette.

e.  To promote growth in international understanding and fellowship.

 

Article 3.  Membership

Both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the University of Louisiana(either

full time or part time), and  who are interested in Indian activities and events and who are

in good standing. General membership requirements will be to  pay semester

membership fees.

 

Article 4.  President and Committee selection

a.  Outgoing President should call meeting of all the interested candidates for the post of

President ship. If interested candidates agree for the settlement of their designation,

then outgoing President will declare the decided person in that meeting. as the  NEW

President.

b.  In the meeting called for all interested candidates for the President ship,  if there is

NO settlement among the candidates, then situation leads to POLLING for the post of

President. In this case, polling is to be conducted through Yahoo groups. polling

facility.

Only current members of AIS, can vote for this polling for the post of President ship.

c.  Newly elected President reserves all rights  to select his committee members. It is

expected that representation to all academic  departments will be given in the

committee.

d.  There should be minimum, seven members in the committee; but it is always

President.s wish to add any new designations, as per valid requirements.

e.  Once selected as committee member, that person should be given at least 6 months,

before evaluating his/her performance.

 

Article 5. Duties of the Office Bearers

1.  The President shall chair and call all Committee Meetings. He/She shall be the

person in overall charge of the activities and the affairs of the association. He/She

shall preside over the Committee Meetings. He/She shall ensure that the Meetings

and activities are adequately publicized.

 

2.  Vice President is responsible for

a. Supporting and advising President in all the above mentioned responsibilities.

b. Responsible for representing AIS, in the  International Students. council.s meetings

held regularly, and report  the meeting details to AIS committee.

 

3.  Treasurer is responsible for

a. Publicizing the account.s details at the end of every semester.

b. Responsible to collect semester membership fees($10 for New students, $5 for old

members) All active members are entitled to examine the accounts at all times.

 

4.  Secretary is responsible for

a. Keeping the minutes at all AIS Committee Meetings.

b. Keeping an up-to-date membership list.

c. Informing all members of upcoming events.

 

5.  Event manager (Web) is responsible for

a.  Handling  two  email  ids,  one  for  hotmail  account,  used  especially  for  new

students. response & second one for yahoo groups, used to communicate within

association.

b.   Taking care of maintaining the association home page on  the internet.

 

6.  Event manager (Pick-up) is responsible for

Arranging suitable places for new students to offer them accommodation, pick-up

forms, managing other tasks related to New students.

All members in the committee should HELP him/her for these tasks.

 

7.  Event manager (Potluck) is responsible for

a. Arranging Potluck.

b. Responsible for the arrangements of movie nights.

 

Article 6. Special Circumstances

a.  Unless  and  until  President  is  heading  the  office,  he/she  can  always  change

his/her office bearers(committee members), but  with some valid reasons only

b.  If President is not able to continue anymore, due to any reason, office will be

automatically  under  the  charge  of  Vice  President.  If  he/she  does  not  want  to

serve as the New President then preference will be given to committee members

for nomination for any position in the committee

c.  If  the  President  is  NOT  working  satisfactorily,  then  other  committee  members

have right to dethrone him/her from the office by satisfying following conditions:-

1.  Official  meeting  should  be  called  explicitly  for  this  reason,  including

Faculty Adviser

2.  Majority  of  committee  members,  should  support  this  resolution  in  the

meeting of office bearers front of faculty adviser

3.  Faculty adviser reserves right to pass the resolution. Without his/her

permission, even if the resolution is passed, President can not be

dethroned. 

Article 7. Faculty Adviser

President and  his committee members will decide Faculty Adviser. It is  expected to

change  Faculty Adviser every academic  year.  If the participation and  guidance  by  the

faculty adviser is evaluated unsatisfactory, committee deserves right to change him/her.

 

Article 8. Amendments

a.  Any Amendment to the AIS constitution can be executed only after approval by

majority, in the official meeting.

b.  Secretary is responsible for submitting minutes of this meeting for Amendment to

Faculty Adviser.

 

Article 9. Resolution & Majority

a.  Resolution is said to be passed by majority, if resolution is supported by more than

half of the office bearers in the official meeting.

b.  All the office bearers should be present in the meeting, while passing any resolution,

if by any reason any committee member is NOT able to present, he/she should send

his/her certified vote, either by email or thro. any person, for that meeting; failure to

do so twice, automatically gives right to the committee to not consider that member.s

opinion about particular resolution. This sub article is applicable to all the

resolutions to be passed.

 

Article 10. Publicity

a.  Any resolution/amendment passed in the committee meeting should be conveyed to

all AIS members, thro. official email of our organization.

b.  Yahoo groups. id should not be used for any Personal benefits.

 

Article 11. Violation of Constitution

a.  Any sort of violation of the constitution will be considered as serious offense and it

might result in cancellation of AIS membership forever.

b.  Action to be taken against violator should be passed as resolution with majority and

should be approved by Faculty adviser, in the official meeting of AIS committee.
