Joining the club and getting started
as a Karateka is a really easy and fun affair. Here are answers to some of
the questions prospective members tend to ask...
Q:
How can I join the Club?
A: It's
easy! Just send an email to
ulkarateclub@yahoo.com or call 337
2969404
and leave a message.
Q: How much does it cost to join the Club?
A: $25 for the whole semester.
Q:
So what documentation should I
bring?
A: Just
your UL ID and a photocopy of your medical insurance card.
Q:
Are new members expected to
have had prior exposure to martial arts, or any other type of physical
activity?
A: No.
Q:
Am I expected to have my own white Karate uniform (gi) in order to join?
A:
No. Just put on some regular exercise
clothes, you don't even need sneakers:). You can later, if you choose,
order a gi for yourself, or ask one of the instructors to get you one at
a discounted price.
Q:
Will I be expected to spar?
A:
No. That is unless you choose to, in which case the instructors will
help you with that and give you all the information you need.
Q:
How do I get from one color
belt to the next?
A: All you have to do is be persistent in your
training. Usually, each time a student tests for a color belt, they have
to learn a new Kata (form) and show that they have improved their
basic techniques (kicks, punches, stances, etc.). Basic techniques are
called Kihon in Japanese. |
