New app gives students inside track on bus routes, arrival times

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette students can keep tabs on bus locations and estimated arrival times thanks to a new transit-tracking app.

The Office of Transportation Services recently launched a mobile app for students who ride University buses. The app is provided by Ride Systems, a company based in Morgan, Utah.

Users can view real-time shuttle locations via GPS tracking. The app also provides estimated arrival times to each of the three campus bus stops. They are located at Cajun Field, Bourgeois Hall and on Rex Street.

The app has a “shuttle tracker” feature that enables users to view a map that displays bus routes. Moving icons show the progress of University buses as they travel between destinations.

The app includes a stationary bus icon that, when clicked, presents information about estimated arrival times at the next stop on a given route.

It also gives Transportation Services the ability to post information, such as updates on schedule changes or notifications about events that could affect parking.

Regular University bus hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday; and noon to 11:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Mobile phone users can download the Ride Systems app to an Android or iPhone, and then select “University of Louisiana Lafayette.” The system is also available online at ulgeauxride.com for larger devices.
