More than 100 graduate students as well as new and experienced faculty from around the world will be coming to Lafayette Feb. 21 for the Louisiana Conference on Language and Literature.
The conference is an international event that brings together scholars from across the Humanities and Social Sciences for an engaging and collegial weekend of intellectual debate, cultural experiences, and networking.
The LCLL will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn on 2350 West Congress St. and will include an academic publishing workshop featuring editors from university presses and academic journals, a Louisiana literary tour and crawfish boil, and a night of authentic Louisiana music featuring La Bande Feu Follet.
Keynote speakers include:
Elizabeth Nunez: Award-winning author of six novels, including Prospero's Daughter (New York Times Book Review Editor's Choice), Discretion (short-listed for the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award), Bruised Hibiscus (American Book Award), and Beyond the Limbo Silence (Independent Publishers Book Award); and co-editor of the volumes Stories from Blue Latitudes: Caribbean Women Writers at Home and Abroad and Black Writers in the 90s.
Jeanne Moskal: Author of Studies of Blake and Mary Shelley, Editor of Keats-Shelley Journal; Founding President of the International Society for Travel Writing, and Editor of the series Writing Travel.
Several conference events will be open to the public. These include:
• Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. - 9 p.m. Reading by Rikki Ducornet, award-winning novelist and UL Lafayette’s new Writer-in-Residence, located in the Hilton Garden Inn's Evangeline Room. This is a free event. Follett's the Bookstore will provide books for sale at this event.
• Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. Louisiana Music Event, Blue Moon Saloon and Guest House, Downtown Lafayette. Admission is $7.00.
