English Department Scholastic Award Recipients For Spring 2008

The UL Lafayette English Department recently recognized students during the Spring 2008 scholastic awards ceremony. Those receiving awards include:

• Best Freshman Essay: Barrett Cart of Patterson. Honorable Mention: Kelly Poindexter of Lafayette and Hope Rurik of Eunice.

• Florence Sanders Jones English Award: Roger Wiley Cash of Oak Island, NC; Justin Thurman of Broussard; and Matthew Hackler of Lafayette.

• Virginia Wilson Cook Award for Excellence in English Education: Gina Marie Gallo of Charenton.

• Owen Reamer Award for Excellence in English: Lauren Theresa George of Lafayette.

• Dr. Doris H. Meriwether English Scholarship: Eliana Stetco of Lafayette.

• Judge Felix Voorhies for Creative Writing: Carmen Isabel Lasala-Ayres of Lafayette.

• Timothy W. Adams Award for Creative Writing: Justin Thurman of Broussard.

• Drs. Paul T. Nolan and James H. Wilson Creative Writing Award: Tshy Meri Cross of Westlake.

• Robert and Bernice M. Webb Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching at the Entry Level: Lesli Price of West Monroe.

• Robert and Bernice M. Webb Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching at the Advanced Level: Colin F. Higgins of Lafayette.

• Dr. Shelley Anne Martin Award for Best Graduate Seminar Paper: Meagan Cass of New York City. Honorable Mention: Inge Korber-O’Connor of Tirol and Suzette Scotti of Rome.

• Zonta International Mary Dichmann English Scholarship: Wendy Stewart-Whelan of Lake Charles.
