An assistant nursing professor recognized recently for her teaching excellence is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Summer 2018 Commencement speaker.
Dr. Jennifer Lemoine will address graduates during the Friday, Aug. 3, ceremony, which begins at 9 a.m. in the Cajundome.
She holds the Shelia Ardoin Walsh Memorial Professorship in Nursing, and is coordinator of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions’ Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
Lemoine received the 2018 Dr. Ray P. Authement Excellence in Teaching Award, one of the highest honors the University confers on faculty.
She joined the College of Nursing in 2007 as an instructor while also working as a neonatal nurse practitioner.
Neonatology remains her primary field of research. She and two nursing colleagues completed a recent study on safe sleep practices for newborns. In addition, she’s presented research at state and national conferences on topics such as opioid use during pregnancy and simulation-based nursing education.
She was the recipient of the 2013-2014 College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions’ Rising Star Award in Research. She twice received the college’s Research Excellence Award, in 2014 and 2016.
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing named Lemoine a faculty policy fellow in 2014. She is considered an expert on the effects of state and national public health policies on patients’ access to quality care.
Lemoine received her doctor of nursing practice degree, a clinical doctorate, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2011. She is now pursuing a Ph.D. in nursing at the University of Utah.
UL Lafayette will confer about 300 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees during Summer 2018 Commencement.
