Sacred Images & Truth: Discussion on Iconography

Fr. Philip Rogers and Dr. Arthur White will speak on the historical and religious context of iconography. Unlike standard "religious art" Orthodox iconography has gone largely unchanged. Using the icon of the Resurrection as the example, Fr. Philip will attempt to show how icons are meant to reflect timeless Truth to the worshiping community. Dr. White will use illustrations to trace briefly the evolution of religious art from Byzantine icons through the Baroque, with special reference to images echoed in the works by Gary Chapman currently on exhibit at the museum.
