Biography

Dr. Bobbie B. DeCuir is a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, and has served as the Dean of University College at UL Lafayette since 2012. She began her career at the University more than 32 years ago in the Department of Communication. She would later go on to work in the Department of Special Services for 19 years where she began her work with students from first generation and low-income backgrounds. Her passion to provide a pathway into higher education for students from first generation and low-income backgrounds led her to accept a position with the Picard Center for Childhood Development and Life-long Learning as the Director of Poverty and Family Studies. Dr. DeCuir is a strong advocate for children and families living in poverty and is committed to promoting solutions for change in this arena.

Although Dr. DeCuir’s focus has broadened in terms of the students she serves, she continues to foster and nurture students in the belief that reaching one’s potential is within their grasp with the right support and resources. Her oversight of the Trio Programs allows her to continue to ensure that students from the very background that she too was a product of thrive and succeed. It gives her great joy to remind others of an Alan Turing quote, “Sometimes it is the people no one can imagine anything of who do the things no one can imagine.
