University Research Park, which is part of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s campus, earned recognition recently by state economic development leaders.

It was cited during a reception held in Baton Rouge to announce the observance of Louisiana Innovation Month throughout November.

The research park was among more than two dozen Louisiana-based organizations and places singled out for developing innovative products and practices in their respective fields.

It houses laboratories, offices and facilities for basic and applied research, testing and consulting. Tenants include the National Wetlands Research Center, which is owned and operated by the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise, an immersive visualization complex. Hilton Garden Inn is situated in part of the 143-acre park; it offers an educational training facility for University students studying hospitality management.

“Louisiana has had a rich history of producing and supporting innovators who have brought significantly greater value to their companies, communities and the state,” Les Guice, chairman of the Louisiana Innovation Council, said at the event. “Louisiana Innovation Month gives us the opportunity to shine a light on a few of those who are having a significant impact today and are inspiring others to be our innovators of tomorrow.”

The 31-member Council is composed of representatives of major economic groups and education institutions throughout the state, as well as gubernatorial appointees and legislators.

Statewide, Louisiana Innovation Month is being celebrated through business-pitch competitions, technology showcases, social media gatherings, networking events for entrepreneurs, and award ceremonies for emerging companies.
