It's a wildcatter's wildest dream: a formation estimated to hold about 7 billion barrels of crude oil.

A new lab at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette brings together geologists, petroleum engineers, geophysicists and economic development experts — all with the goal of recovering the black gold that sits underneath a large section of central Louisiana.
