Digital visual effects artist Ray McIntyre Jr. will be honored at UL Lafayette’s College of the Arts’ third annual Beaux Arts Ball on Friday, Oct. 5.
McIntyre's screen credits include Secretariat; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Part 2; The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; and The Help.
He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1996 for HBO’s acclaimed Tuskegee Airmen. In 2004, he won the Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects for his work in The Last Samurai. He also won an International Monitor Award in 1998 for his work in Casper Meets Wendy.
McIntyre is a recipient of the College’s 2012 SPARK Lifetime Achievement Award and will be formally recognized at this year’s ball. His studio, Pixel Magic, has two locations: in Los Angeles, Calif., and on the UL Lafayette campus, in the Louisiana Center for Immersive Technologies.
The Beaux Arts Ball will begin at 7 p.m. at River Oaks Catering and Event Center, 520 Kaliste Saloom Road. It’s a fundraiser that supports the College, which includes the School of Architecture and Design, and the School of Music and Performing Arts.
The money helps meet a variety of needs, explained Margaret Kennedy-Dygas, associate dean of the College. “It’s used for student scholarships, student travel and productions, faculty development and recruiting.”
This year's theme for the costume ball is “Seeing Red.” Design students will showcase masks created for the event.
“Lafayette knows how to dress up and have a good time,” said Gordon Brooks, dean of the College of the Arts. “This year, we will, undoubtedly, be seeing a lot of red and really hot masks and costumes. Let’s celebrate the art life of our community and paint the town red in an entirely new way!”
Tickets are $75 per person or $600 for a table of eight and include a buffet dinner. Music will be provided by the UL Lafayette Jazz Ensemble. The evening will also include silent and live art auctions.
