A team of electrical and computer engineering students from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette took third place honors at the IEEE Region 5 Robotics competition held in Dallas on April 17.

A total of 27 schools participated in the competition. Teams had to construct a land-based robot, which could autonomously transport expended nuclear fuel rods from a central location to a remote designated location. The robots had to avoid obstacles during transport.

UL Lafayette’s team included undergraduates Ryan Blossom, Josh Lewis and Trilby Lyons. This is the third year in a row that a UL Lafayette team has placed in the top 10 at the robotics competition.

Team members received a certificate and cash stipend for third place. They tied with Louisiana Tech. In first place was the University of Houston, followed by Oklahoma State University in second.
