The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is once again hosting academic signings at area high schools. The event recognizes top seniors who have been awarded academic scholarships to UL Lafayette.

Last year, signings were held at three high schools. This year, the university is planning to hold signings at nine area high schools.

The first signing was held today at Northside High School. Those honored were Anthony Baker, Erin Polk and Rebekah Romero.

On Thursday, 14 students from Catholic High School in New Iberia will be recognized. They include: Alexander Breaux, Dylan Breaux, Emily Broussard, Kyle East, Sara Gibson, Matthew Halphen, Lexi Landry, Lanie Lissard, Jacob Nelson, Emmi Perez, Brock Romero, Raven Schexnayder, Jed Segura and Halee Snellgrove.

Similar to National Signing Day where top athletes sign a letter of intent to a particular university, Academic Signings provide an opportunity for UL Lafayette to publicly acknowledge outstanding scholars who intend to enroll at the university.

More signings are scheduled throughout April and May. Other signings are scheduled as follows: Episcopal School of Acadiana on April 15, St. Thomas More on April 20, Acadiana High on April 21, New Iberia Senior High on April 23, Lafayette High on April 27, Teurlings High on April 29 and Comeaux High on May 4.
