Louisiana Athletics mourns the death of David Walker, director of athletics from 2007 to 2010 who passed away Tuesday evening.

A 1976 graduate of the University, Walker served his alma mater in many roles in the campus’ administration for more than 30 years. Prior to taking over as permanent athletics director in 2007, Walker served in the position on an interim basis beginning in 2005. Shortly after, he helped the University and Lafayette communities navigate the aftermaths of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The campus community extends its condolences to the Walker family, as well as David Walker’s many friends and colleagues.

Statement from University President, Dr. E. Joseph Savoie

“Prior to and during his tenure as director of athletics, David served in many important roles at the University. He was a trusted adviser and effectively managed several delicate and complicated issues. In each, he focused on the University’s best interests. David was unassuming, but he had a great strategic mind, and he was very effective in his long and loyal service to the University. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Pat, and the entire Walker family.”
